26/05/19 - Match Report. Away v Dalkeith

26 May 2019 by Keith mackay

After a morning of torrential rain we were glad to see some brighter skies by kick off. The wind however was sweeping across the pitch making good football difficult.

Loanhead started brightly and pressed high up the park with 80% of play in the Dalkeith half.

Glen was playing a strong role as defensive midfielder and he was playing lots of great passes.

Riley, Lachie and Ellis were working hard and running the spaces and plenty of shots were the result. Jude was his usual power house of a player and his attacking full back role brought about a number of chances.

Move of the game brought about the first goal when Glen won the ball in midfield and slotted a pass to Riley who played a fantastic pass splitting the Dalkeith defence and Ellis was ruthless finishing well. 0-1

Kai was back from his travels and he found his fitness quickly.

Lloyd came on midway through the first half and had 3 good shots on goal in quick succession.

Both Kirwin and Riley came close with shots on front of goal and we started to think our luck wasn’t in today.

That changed though when Danny launched a huge kick from goal that went over the heads of Dalkeith defence and Edward the predator pounced and ran through on goal and finished well. 0-2 H/T

Second half the wind direction seemed to unsettle Loanhead and Dalkeith started to stretch our defence. A few mistakes started to appear and our marking let us down as Dalkeith broke on a number of occasions resulting in them scoring a good goal. 1-2

Riley had a great second half and he ran riot on the right wing, cutting back in time and again with a number of good crosses.

Glen had a determined game and his fighting in midfield saw him have a number of shots and tackles.

It looked like Loanhead had done enough to hold on for the victory but there was a sting in the tail and a defensive mix up had Dalkeith queuing up on front of goal leaving Danny no chance as Dalkeith thundered Home an equaliser 2 minutes from the end.

The last few minutes were frantic but it finished a 2-2 draw.

Hard fought game in difficult conditions. Today’s Man of the Match went to Glen for his all round play in midfield and his fighting spirit. He was unlucky not to be awarded a stone wall penalty 5 minutes before the end.
